Last season Shelford Rugby Club had more than 1,000 members which ranged from those playing for the 1st XV to those enjoying their rugby with the U7s. The Club also has a varied non-playing membership including some who joined the Club for the first-time last season and others who played for the Club in the 1960s are still supporting the Club today. It is this strong and diverse membership that makes Shelford Rugby Club the great club it is.

The Club is dependent on membership subscriptions to be help ensure that the Club’s facilities can be maintained to a high standard for all members of the Club. This page provides all the information you need about any changes from last season and what you need to do to renew your membership for the 2025/26 season. Please renew your membership as soon as possible.

What do I need to do?

Existing members

If you are an existing member please log in to your GMS account to renew your membership.

A guidance section has been prepared to help guide you through online membership renewal.

Please remember that all memberships should be renewed by 1st September. No-one will be allowed to play for the Club after this date if they have not purchased or renewed their membership.

All current members should already have a membership card. Please remember that membership cards are not replaced each season.

New members

If you are new to the Club and buying membership for the first time, you need to complete and submit the relevant membership form. Once processed, you will be emailed your login details to access GMS.

New Adult Member FormNew Child Member Form

Contact membership@shelfordrugby.co.uk if you have any questions about membership.

New members will receive their Membership cards through the post.

Please also remember that free entry to the ground on 1st XV match days and discounted prices require presentation of a membership card.

Membership guidance

Your membership entitles you to:- Training/Fixtures on Sunday plus 1 hour training in the week (from U10’s upwards), throughout the season (normally from the 1st Sunday in September to the end of April);

Food for your child after home games (not training), other clubs provide for away fixtures. This is an important part of the players off pitch experience as it allows them to cement friendships over some food and allows you the opportunity to informally chat to your coaches/administrators and socialise with parents from other age groups.

The clubs playing facilities, changing rooms and training equipment.

Appropriate kit allocation for each age group (balls, bibs, (tags if needed), cones and first aid kit).

Referees fees.

The opportunity to apply for and buy International tickets through the club through their allocation.

Reduced entry to the club’s 1st XV home games on a Saturday.

Voting rights at the clubs AGM.

Volunteering

Through becoming a member of the club you, as a parent, will also be committing to doing your part (however large or small) towards the running of the club.

Club Duty

In order to run the M&Y section each age group will be allocated two or three Sunday Club Duties across the season (depending on age group). This covers opening the club, helping in the kitchen, car parking, tidying the club and closing it up afterwards.

Your team administrator will add you to a rota which you are responsible for fulfilling; if you cannot make the slot given, you are expected to find alternative cover.

This is a very good way to meet your fellow parents and is an essential part of providing a good service keeping your subscriptions down.

Coaches, team administrators and first aiders

Coaching, administration and first aid is entirely reliant upon volunteers from within your age group. If you would be interested in assisting in any of these capacities please speak to your lead coach or administrator. The club will fully support you and ensure that you receive all the appropriate training. If there is a cost attached to the training you will be reimbursed by the club upon provision of receipts/proof.

Working parties

Across the closed summer season your group will be allocated one Saturday morning where parents and players will come together to fulfil a maintenance programme of the clubs facilities in preparation for the following season. These range from deep cleaning the kitchen/bar through to painting of changing rooms or outside railings and are an essential part of keeping the club looking as good as it does.

Other Roles

Beyond your immediate age group there are a variety of other positions to fulfil to keep the club running. A small number of these positions are elected but many rely on the goodwill of our members. Vacancies will be communicated on the Website but if you would be prepared to commit some time to the club please contact the Club’s Volunteer Coordinator (CVC) - enquiries@shelfordrugby.co.uk.

Touring

Through your child’s time with the club there will be a variety of age appropriate opportunities to tour both within the country and abroad. This is a fantastic way of consolidating the players friendships and also expose them to exciting new experiences.

To try to ensure that this opportunity is available to all players frequently the age group concerned will try to reduce the cost per player by raising funds. All such endeavours are in principle supported by the club but clearly do need to be sanctioned to ensure that they do not conflict with other endeavours that the club is undertaking.

May I take this opportunity to wish both you and your child a very long, positive and happy time at the club and should you wish to contact me on any matters please do not hesitate to do so.

Financial Hardship

As a club, we wish to support all members, and do not wish to see the level of subscriptions as a barrier to joining the club and enjoying rugby. Assistance can be arranged on a case by case basis. If you are having difficulty managing to pay your subscriptions or even afford a new pair of boots, then please talk to the club treasurer (treasurer@shelfordrugby.co.uk), on a completely confidential basis.

Additional information

Codes Of Conduct Players, Spectators and Coaches codes of conduct can be found here.

Kit You don’t need much kit to get started. A gum shield, some studded boots (not blades) and strip can be purchased from the club shop. There are also second hand kit sales sporadically across the season (first of which is 11th September) and a gum shield fitting at the start of the season.

3G pitch Only round studded footwear can be worn on the 3G pitch. Anyone going onto the playing surface (through the white gates) must be wearing round studded boots ... no bladed boots, trainers or other flat-bottomed footwear. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Adhering to this rule will ensure that the pitch is kept in its best condition for as long as possible.
